There's an old truth in Hollywood: if you don't want a movie made about your life, die young and mysterious. If you live to a ripe old age, be prepared for someone else to play your youth, your loves, your secrets. Kim Novak, the star of Hitchcock's "Vertigo," made it to 93. And judging by her recent interview, she's not ready for any of it. Novak insists that what she had with Davis was bigger than physical chemistry. "We had so much in common." Her worry is that a movie called "Scandalous!" will be exactly that — about the scandal, not about what actually connected them.

Domingo read the script in a few hours and called her back: "This is exactly what I've been telling my team I want to find." So there's a team behind this movie that genuinely believes in it. They've got chemistry, trust, a shared vision. And then there's Kim Novak, who, according to Sweeney, has a good relationship with Domingo. Sweeney herself? Not so much, apparently.

For writers and producers, this is a reminder: when you take on the story of a living person, especially one who's still sharp and has a public voice, be ready for them to not share your enthusiasm. You think you have the right to artistic interpretation. They think they have the right to control their own story. And neither side is going to be completely right. Why Kim Novak Didn't Approve of Sydney Sweeney

For screenwriters, it's a reminder: rights to a story are complicated. A living person might see themselves differently than an artist does. And respecting the source material doesn't always mean agreeing with how they see themselves.
